What Is a Lip Lift?
A lip lift, also known as lip shortening surgery or the subnasal "bullhorn" lip lift, is a cosmetic procedure that can:
- Reduce the distance between your nose and your upper lip.
- Augment the size of your upper lip, creating a more youthful appearance.
- Address any asymmetry in your lips.
When performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Kishinevsky, a lip lift can provide a subtle, natural-looking enhancement to your facial features.
What Are the Benefits of Lip Lift Surgery?
No More Injections
If you have been enhancing your lips with injections like fillers and BOTOX® Cosmetic, an upper lip lift can gift your lips and face a more youthful appearance without the upkeep of injections every few months.
Permanent Results
Unlike fillers and BOTOX, a lip lift is permanent. While the natural aging process may change your lift results over time, they will still be longer-lasting than injectables.
Simple Procedure
While a lip lift is considered surgery, it is so simple that you do not require sedation. A simple local anesthetic is usually all you need to feel comfortable while our plastic surgeon gives your lips the look you desire.
Boosted Self-Confidence
When you are happy with your appearance, you can feel more confident in your body. We are passionate about helping patients find confidence through surgery.

Upper Lip Lift Recovery After Your Procedure in Norwalk, CT
Take Medication
Patients usually manage their pain easily with over-the-counter pain medication. Take them as directed.
Use Ice Packs
Minimize swelling by using ice packs. Be sure to keep the sutures dry. Place the ice packs on the area for about 15-20 minutes at a time.
Avoid Alcohol/Tobacco
Alcohol and tobacco products can inhibit the healing process. It's best to avoid them for a few months as you heal.
Eat a Soft Diet
Eat a soft diet for about one to two weeks to minimize irritation to your lips.
Talk Less
Avoid talking when possible to avoid irritation to the surgical site. Movement can cause discomfort and slow healing.
Sleep on Your Back
Sleep on your back with your head elevated while you heal. This can reduce swelling and discomfort.

Lip Lift vs. Fillers
If you want fuller lips, a surgical lip lift is not your only option. Patients from Norwalk, Bridgeport, and Southwestern Connecticut can also choose injectable fillers at our practice. Here are some similarities and differences to consider when you are deciding between the two approaches:
Lip Lift | Fillers | |
Method | A lip lift is a form of plastic surgery that involves scalpels and sutures. | Fillers are injected directly into the lips using a syringe. |
Results | Lip lift surgery permanently alters your lips so that they appear fuller and more youthful. | Fillers add volume to your lips, but the results fade over time. To maintain your results, you will require additional injections in the future. |
Recovery | There will be some soreness and swelling that should subside after a few weeks. You will need to limit your facial movement during the recovery period so you don't open the incision. | Different patients react differently but swelling and discomfort usually only last a few days. You will not have to worry about damaging any incisions. |
When you meet with our plastic surgeon for a consultation, she will determine whether an upper lip lift or an injectable treatment is more appropriate for your goals.

Dr. K and her team are so kind and patient! My pre-op appointments, surgery, and post-op appointments were all smooth and clear - and the team kept me relaxed through it all. I am very satisfied and highly recommend them!
View on GoogleHer compassion, care and way she works with young children is simply phenomenal. Fast forward to her follow up visit in office. There’s a kid section in the waiting room which our daughter loved. But what wait? We were taken in on time and had a quick and efficient appointment. Most of all we have faith the job was done right and she will heal perfectly without a scar. Thank you!
