Restylane Results: What to Expect After Treatment
Many people are unhappy with how aging affects facial features. Lines, wrinkles, and deep creases are common concerns. Despite aesthetic flaws, not everyone is ready to undergo cosmetic surgery to achieve desired results. Cosmetic injectables are a less invasive option for rejuvenating the appearance.
Anya Kishinevsky, M.D., offers several injectable treatments at her plastic and reconstructive surgery center, including Restylane. Restylane adds volume to fill creases and minimize wrinkles around the cheeks, nose, and lips. Before a Restylane procedure, Dr. Kishinevsky talks to her Norwalk, CT, and Bridgeport, CT, patients about Restylane results and what to expect after treatment so they have realistic expectations.
How Immediate Are Restylane Results?
One of the many benefits of Restylane treatment is its fast results. Restylane is an injectable gel made of hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the body. Restylane injectables immediately add volume to treatment sites. After treatment, the skin looks soft and plush. Over time, Restylane settles into the skin, which further enhances treatment results.
When Can I Expect Maximum Treatment Results?
Restylane immediately makes treatment sites look softer and fuller, but results improve as the product settles in, the skin absorbs water, and collagen production increases in the sub-dermal layers of the skin. Skin volume gradually improves over time, with most of our Norwalk patients achieving maximum results around four to six weeks after their procedure.
Will I Experience Side Effects?
Patients can expect to develop side effects after Restylane treatment. The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, redness, and pain or tenderness near the treatment site. Side effects are generally minor to moderate and usually resolve in a week or less.
How Long Do Restylane Results Last?
Restylane results vary slightly from patient to patient. Treatment results are affected by the injectable formula used, the treatment site, the patient’s natural genetics, and post-treatment care. On average, Restylane results last between six and 12 months, though some patients enjoy Restylane results for up to 18 months.
Prolonging Restylane Results
There are steps that patients can take after a Restylane procedure to promote healing and prolong treatment results. We recommend these aftercare tips:
- Do not touch the face for six to 12 hours after Restylane treatment
- Avoid rubbing or aggressively touching the skin for 24 hours after treatment
- Avoid unprotected sun exposure after treatment, as UV rays can break down dermal fillers more quickly
- Refrain from excessive alcohol consumption
The abovementioned aftercare tips are beneficial, but the best way to prolong Restylane results is with touchup treatment. The frequency of touchup appointments depends on how long treatment results last. Initially, patients may require a touchup six to 12 months after a procedure. However, results tend to last longer with repeated treatments, so after the first touchup, annual appointments are usually enough to allow patients to enjoy seamless Restylane results.
