What Is Involved in a Full Body Lift
Loose, sagging skin is a common problem for those who have lost a significant amount of weight. When excessive skin hangs from all areas of the body, it can affect self-esteem and diminish the results of weight loss. A full body lift provides a solution to those who want to eliminate hanging skin from multiple areas for a more toned and streamlined appearance.
Each full body lift is unique to the needs of each patient. Dr. Anya Kishinevsky explains what is involved in a full body lift to her Norwalk, CT, Bridgeport, CT, patients during private consultations. To find out if a full body lift is right for you, we welcome you to schedule a consultation.
What’s a Full Body Lift?
A full body lift refers to a combination of surgical procedures used to eliminate loose, stretched, sagging skin from different areas of the body.
A full body lift may be used to tighten and smooth the skin of the abdomen, thighs, arms, breasts, buttocks, and thighs.
What Procedures Are Involved?
The type and number of procedures used in a full body lift will depend on the patient’s needs and cosmetic goals.
The following are some common procedures used in a full body lift.
Breast Lift
The breasts can take on a deflated appearance after significant weight loss, pregnancy, or breastfeeding. A breast lift may be included in a full body lift to create a more youthful appearance.
There are different types of breast lift techniques that may be used to lift the breasts and reduce sagging. Regardless of the technique used, incisions are made in such a way to keep them as discreet as possible.
Arm Lift
Another common concern after significant weight loss is loose, hanging skin from the upper arms. Including an arm lift with a full body lift can help create slimmer, more defined arms.
An arm lift is performed by making incisions on the inside or back of the arm. Excess tissue can then be removed and the remaining skin can be tightened.
Mini arm lifts are also an option for those with less significant sagging. Incisions are hidden in the underarms with mini arm lifts.
Lower Body Lift
A lower body lift addresses loose, sagging skin on the lower portions of the body, including the abdomen, thighs, and buttocks.
During a lower body lift, one approach that may be used is to make an incision around the abdomen and another around the top of the buttocks, hips, and thighs. Excess tissue is then removed and the skin is tightened and incisions are sutured in place.
Liposuction
Sometimes liposuction is included with a full body lift to further smooth and contour the body. Liposuction is performed by inserting a small tube called a cannula into specific areas of the body to suction out fat cells and create a more streamlined appearance.
Candidates for a Full Body Lift
A full body lift can help those who have excessive loose, sagging skin achieve a more contoured appearance. Candidates often include people who have lost a significant amount of weight from bariatric surgery or diet and exercise.
In addition, candidates should be in good general health and free of certain medical conditions such as heart disease or bleeding disorders. Also, candidates should be nonsmokers and have maintained their weight for at least three months.
