JUVÉDERM Treatment
JUVÉDERM is a smooth, gel-like substance that is injected into the skin to fill in fine lines and wrinkles, or add volume to facial features that are sunken or hollowed out. JUVÉDERM is made up of hyaluronic acid, a substance that is naturally found in the body, and one that stimulates the production of collagen.
Dr. Kishinevsky offers two types of JUVÉDERM treatment at her plastic surgery practice: JUVÉDERM XC and JUVÉDERM Voluma XC. Dr. Kishinevsky works with an in-house aesthetician to determine which product is right for each patient, but generally JUVÉDERM XC is used to treat lines and wrinkles, and JUVÉDERM Voluma XC is used to restore volume to the cheeks or facial features.
JUVÉDERM Results
JUVÉDERM results are usually visible almost immediately after treatment. However, some patients experience minor swelling in the first couple of weeks following treatment. If inflammation occurs, patients can expect to see the final results of treatment after all side effects have resolved.
Although JUVÉDERM results are not permanent, they are long-lasting. The effects of JUVÉDERM XC generally last around one year. JUVÉDERM Voluma XC results are even longer lasting, and can last for up to two years. The lifespan of JUVÉDERM results depends largely on the patient’s natural skin texture and elasticity, though aftercare practices can be a factor as well.
How Can I Prolong JUVÉDERM Results?
JUVÉDERM treatment is not meant to provide permanent results, and there is nothing that patients can do to change that. However, there are steps that patients can take to protect the skin and prolong JUVÉDERM results so that they get the most out of their treatment. Following JUVÉDERM treatment, we encourage patients to practice these skin care tips:
- Clean, moisturize, and exfoliate the skin regularly
- Stay well-hydrated
- Eat a balanced diet that is rich in minerals and nutrients
- Minimize time in the sun
- Apply sunscreen before going outdoors
In addition to these skin care practices, the best thing that patients can do to maintain the results of JUVÉDERM treatment is to schedule maintenance sessions. We suggest that patients come in between 12 and 18 months following JUVÉDERM treatment to evaluate the face and determine if a touch-up session is necessary.
