Eyelid Surgery for Hooded Eyes
The eyes are surrounded by delicate skin that is especially susceptible to the effects of aging. It is no surprise, then, that blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed by Dr. Anya Kishinevsky.
Eyelid surgery lifts, tightens, and smooths the skin around the eyes to restore a more alert, refreshed, and youthful appearance. This procedure is a great option for patients with hooded eyes.
Upper eyelid surgery eliminates excess skin from the upper lids to reduce the weight of the lids and create a more visible upper eyelid crease. Eyelid surgery can be performed to address hooded eyes, allowing our Darien, CT patients to enjoy more youthful looking eyes and unobscured vision.
Candidates
Upper eyelid surgery is best-suited to patients with loose, excess skin on the upper lids. This procedure can eliminate the following concerns:
- Heavy skin that weighs down the upper eyelids
- Eyes that appear tired and worn down
- An undefined upper eyelid crease
- Obstructed vision from skin that overhangs the upper eyelid
Patients with any of these issues may be candidates for upper eyelid surgery, as long as they are in good overall health and are free of any conditions that may increase the risk of surgery.
The Procedure
Upper eyelid surgery is typically performed with the patient under general anesthesia. To eliminate the appearance of a hooded lid, a small incision will be made along the natural crease of the upper eyelid. The position of this incision is discreet so any scarring will be minimal once the eyes have healed. Through this incision, Dr. Kishnivesky will remove excess skin and fat deposits. Next, she will pull the upper eyelid skin taut and close the surgical incision.
This procedure produces a more defined upper eyelid, and opens up the eyes to create a more alert and youthful appearance. The effects of eyelid surgery should become apparent about a week after the procedure, although it can take several months for all swelling to subside and the scar to fade.
Cost of Eyelid Surgery
The final cost of eyelid surgery will vary from patient to patient. Each procedure is customized to the unique needs of the patient. The final cost of eyelid surgery will depend on factors such as the extent of changes, the surgeon’s fee, anesthesia costs, and operating room expenses.
One thing that is unique about upper eyelid surgery is that patients may qualify for insurance coverage in some cases. If hooded eyelids are severe enough that they are interfering with the patient’s vision, insurance may provide coverage for the procedure. It is important for patients to discuss this issue with their insurance provider prior to surgery so that they are well aware of what type of coverage will be provided (if any), and what they can expect the final out-of-pocket cost of surgery to be.
